Bergey
Windpower Co.
Introduction
Bergey Windpower is the world’s leading supplier of small
wind turbines. With installations in all 50 U.S. States and more
than 90 countries, and an international network of ~800 dealers,
we have the products and experience to put the wind to work for
you.At Bergey Windpower, we take pride in offering advanced-technology
products that let homeowners and businesses generate their own clean
power and even spin their utility meter backwards. Our turbines
are also used for off-grid homes, for rural electrification, and
to boost the performance of solar electric systems.

Grid-Connection
Grid-Intertie System
Bergey wind turbines operate at variable speed to optimize performance
and reduce structural loads. Power is generated in a direct drive,
low speed, permanent magnet alternator. The output is a 3-phase
power that varies in both voltage and frequency with wind speed.
This variable power (wild AC) is not compatible with the utility
grid.
To make it compatible, the wind power is converted into grid-quality
240 VAC, single phase, 60 hertz power in an IGBT-type synchronous
inverter, the GridTek Power Processor. The output from the GridTek
can be directly connected to the home or business circuit breaker
panel. Operation of the system is fully automatic.

Hybrid Power Systems
Bergey wind turbines used in combination with a back-up diesel generator,
and with optional photovoltaics (PV), provide a cost-effective and
reliable alternative to conventional methods of electricity supply
in remote areas. For home and village power applications Bergey
technology includes advanced system architectures featuring state-of-the-art
sine-wave, bi-modal DC-AC power inverters. For telecommunications
and smaller village power applications, Bergey hybrid systems often
incorporate photovoltaic subsystems to take advantage of the complimentary
seasonal variations in wind and solar power. Bergey hybrid power
systems are available from 1 kW to over 150 kW.

Pumping
Wind-Electric Pumping Systems
The power requirements for standard centrifugal pumps are well matched
to the output of BWC windturbines. This allows a properly sized
pump and motor to operate very efficiently over a wide range ofwind
speeds. Volumetric pumps, such as jack pumps, are more of a challenge,
but can also operated
effectively. There are several advantages to the wind-electric pumping
systems:
1) The wind turbine can be placed at some distance from the well
(borehole) or other water source,
2) Unlike mechanical windmills, these systems require no scheduled
maintenance, and
3) These systems are capable of pumping the higher water volumes
necessary for community water supply and small-plot irrigation.
Wind-electricpumping systems are much less costly to install than
solar pumping systems and they are much less costly to operate than
diesel pump systems.
